Danbury Difference: Mayor Mark Makes The Pitch For Amazon HQ2

DANBURY, Conn. — Mayor Mark Boughton is taking to social media to make Danbury’s case for becoming the home of the new Amazon HQ2.

The video, posted on the City of Danbury's Facebook page, was made by Danbury’s own RmediA. The city hired the firm to film a brief video outlining the reasons that Danbury would make the perfect home for the global company.

The media-savvy Boughton stars in the 90-second feature in which he describes the benefits thatDanbury could offer to Amazon and to the 50,000 high-paid employees expected to work at the massive headquarters.

“We felt that with such a high-tech and global company, the only way we could stand out of the fray was to do something truly unique and impactful,” said Boughton, who brings his style to the video. “We are going to go straight to the top of Amazon with our message so that they know who Danbury is. We have a lot to offer and this video will certainly grab their attention.”

The City of Danbury will be using social media advertising to target Amazon’s current headquarters and its top brass.

The video features some of the most notable statistics that Danbury has achieved in recent years. Those include its designation as:

the safest city in the state,
the most diverse city in the state and one of the most diverse in the country,
the best place to do business in Connecticut, and
the second best place to live in the United States.

Danbury is already home to five other notable corporate headquarters: IMS Health Holdings, Praxair, Ethan Allen, FuelCell Energy and Waterworks.

"Coupled with the fact that the city has a tremendous talent pool to draw from, we know that Danbury is the perfect place for Amazon to call home," the city said.

Danbury is not the only city in Connecticut interested in attracting the second Amazon headquarters. Mayor Luke Bronin said he plans to make a pitch to Amazon. And support is growing in the greater Bridgeport area for locating the headquarters in that region.

Amazon's first headquarters in Seattle encompasses 8 million square feet of office space in 33 buildings for 40,000 workers.
