CT Choral Society Has Spring Gala Fundraiser In Newtown

NEWTOWN, Conn. – The Connecticut Choral Society is hosting the spring gala fundraiser, “ARIA: From Opera to Broadway” from 3-5:30 p.m. Sunday, April 3 at The Alexandria Ballroom at Edmond Town Hall in Newtown.

The Alexandria Ballroom will be transformed into an intimate cabaret at which patrons will enjoy an afternoon of music, fine food and wine. The music program will feature soprano Megan Knapp and mezzo soprano Theresa Bucholz, accompanied by Linda Sweetman-Waters.

Knapp, known for her artistry, rich tone and versatility, has appeared both on the operatic stage and in concert as a soloist. She has performed in New York’s Carnegie Hall and Avery Fisher Hall, as well as in London’s Cadogan Hall. She has sung with the New York Philharmonic, the San Francisco Symphony and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra.

Buchholz, noted for her clear voice and thoughtful interpretation in both oratorio and opera, was the winner of the female division in the Nico Castel International Master Singer Competition at Carnegie Hall. She has been a featured soloist with the Israel Philharmonic with Zubin Mehta conducting in Tel Aviv and Vienna. She has appeared in leading roles in opera companies and has had engagements with notable choral ensembles and in festivals.
