Participants will gain an understanding of their dog and its challenging behaviors from Klein, who is a Certified Dog Listener. Participants will learn how canines see the human world; how they communicate, including the importance of eye contact and movement as well as the underlying reasons for a dog's behaviors like nervousness, toileting indoors, incessant barking, aggression, jumping, pestering for attention, pulling on the leash, and more.
Klein will relay simple, dog-friendly changes in how dog owners can interact with their dog to transform its behavior in a kind and lasting way.

And to complement the Dog Listener program, the Library has partnered with the Danbury Animal Welfare Society to hold an adoption event on that same day, July 22 from noon to 1:30 p.m. on the Library's plaza. In the event of rain, the event will be postponed until Saturday, July 29th from noon to 1:30 p.m.
Visitors will be able to meet and greet some of the dogs available for adoption and look at photos and talk to DAWS volunteers about the cats and kittens looking for their forever homes as well as learn about the shelter's adoption processes.
For those who may not be ready to adopt but want to help the animals, individuals can drop off needed shelter supplies such as paper and cloth towels, dog leashes and collars, dog toys, food, cotton balls, clay litter, pillow cases, and more.
