Popular New Comedians Take Stage At Ridgefield Playhouse

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. – What does a retired attorney, real estate agent, hair stylist, watchmaker, social worker, retired French teacher, sports instructor, publicist, nonprofit board member, musician, copier technician and a married couple all have in common? They're members of Christine O’Leary’s new group of stand-up comics who will make their comedic debut on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at The Ridgefield Playhouse.

Students in O’Leary’s comedy writing workshop have spent eight weeks honing and refining their comedic skills and are ready to take them to the big stage. O’Leary, an award-winning comedienne and comedy teacher, hosts the performance.

Every four months, O’Leary takes a new crop of 15 aspiring comics under her wing as part of her comedy writing workshop. She encourages every student to write a minimum of 15 minutes every day and those comedic bits are juried to the class and become part of their 5-minute showcase comedy routine.

“I’ve watched my stand-up comedy students evolve and transform their lives each week. They’ve persevered, ran their bits and now gained the confidence to get up on the big stage and make the audience laugh,” said O'Leary. “And just by signing up for my class, I remind them that they’ve done something that many people don’t have the guts to do – step up to stand-up. And the best part is that it’s cheaper than therapy.”

Fans can see O’Leary this summer at The Ridgefield Playhouse on Wednesday, July 6 and Wednesday, Aug. 3, and she’ll be appearing at the 11th Annual Long Island Comedy Festival. She plans to take her Team Green Light Comedy Team on the road this summer.
