The conference will begin at 8 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 1, with a continental breakfast in the Science Building Atrium, and will run to 5 p.m. with presentations from the National Weather Service, various weather predictors and modelers, the independent science and journalism organization Climate Central, a freelance storm chaser and more.
“The background of the attendees is as diverse as a year’s worth of New England weather extremes,” said Gary Lessor, assistant to the director of Meteorological Studies and Weather Center at Western.
The purpose of the conference is to improve education, professional development and communication among private and public sector meteorologists, researchers, educators, students, emergency management officials and weather enthusiasts, according to a release from the university.
“This year,” Lessor said, “we are fortunate to welcome back to Danbury two of the most highly accomplished individuals in the field: Louis Uccellini, director of the National Weather Service, and Connecticut native Robert Hart of Florida State University, who specializes in tropical meteorology. It promises to be a wonderful day with engaging and enlightening discussion about meteorology.”
The event is open to the public. The $30 registration fee includes a continental breakfast, morning and afternoon snacks and a full buffet lunch, along with conference materials.
