You’ll have your chance if you head to the beach on Aug. 12.
The Fairfield Museum is collaborating with Westport photographer Stephen Wilkes to create one of his extraordinary “Day to Night” photographs of Fairfield’s waterfront.
On the 12th, Wilkes will capture Fairfield beach over a 24-hour period from a staging area on Jennings Beach.
Residents are invited to visit Jennings and Penfield beaches to be part of the project, which will capture swimmers, sunbathers, sandcastle builders, kayakers and more.
The completed photograph will be on display in April 2018 and will become part of the museum’s permanent collection.
Wilkes is widely recognized for his fine art, editorial and commercial work. His photos are included in the collections of the George Eastman Museum, Houston Museum of Fine Arts, the Jewish Museum of New York, the 9/11 Memorial and the Library of Congress.
His work has also appeared in and on the covers of New York Times Magazine, Vanity Fair, Time, National Geographic, Sports Illustrated and other publications.
His “Day to Night” photographs capture landscapes from a fixed camera angle for up to 30 hours. Past locations have included the Grand Canyon, Times Square and the Serengeti.
The Fairfield photograph has been commissioned as a gift to the museum by the Saft family in memory of Marci Saft, a former museum board member.
