FAIRFIELD, Conn. — Counting the days until the 2018 Winter Olympics?

Get a behind-the-scenes peek at all the festivities on Jan. 25 when broadcaster Rob Simmelkjaer, senior vice president of NBC Sports Ventures, speaks about his experiences at the games at Fairfield Museum and History Center.

The Westport resident will present “Backstage at the Olympics with NBC” through the museum’s 2018 Museum After Dark series. The free, two-hour event begins at 6 p.m.

“Everyone from tweens to adults will find his presentation fascinating and timely,” said Christine Jewell, the museum’s director of programs.

Simmelkjaer will cover the ins and outs of producing an event of such magnitude, including the challenges of the 14-hour time difference in South Korea, and how technology is changing the way people watch their favorite skiers, skaters and bobsledders.

He’ll also discuss the politics of the games — from security issues to Russia’s stance on the doping scandals.

Simmelkjaer’s talk ties to the museum’s current Winter Wonderland exhibition, which features photographs and historic items such as skates, skis and sleds related to favorite winter activities in Fairfield and the surrounding area.

The exhibition is on view in the Ruth Carlson Horn Gallery and runs through Feb. 19.

Museum After Dark begins with a reception and refreshments at 6 p.m. The presentation starts at 6:30 p.m. This month’s Museum After Dark event is free and open to the public.

The museum is located at 370 Beach Road.
