In a number of small towns throughout the nation, more than half of households earn more than three times the national median. This is true in one Fairfield County community, according to a recent 24/7 Wall St. report.

Darien was ranked as the eighth richest town nationwide, according to this analysis, with a median household income of $208,125 and median home value of $1,248,200

Also, nearly 80 percent of the adults living in Darien are college-educated, with at least a bachelor's degree. Higher education is often a leading indicator of career growth and rising wealth, according to the report.

The study also noted Darien's proximity to New York City and Metro-North railroad line.

To determine America’s richest towns, 24/7 Wall St. reviewed household income data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey in every American town with a population between 1,000 and 25,000. For comparison purposes, boroughs, census designated places, cities, towns, and villages were considered.
