NORWALK, Conn. -- Are you a musician or artist looking for gigs? A new website called iDayDream.US for creative people to get bookings is the brainchild of Norwalk resident Chris Mateo.

Chris Mateo of Norwalk said his new website for creative people was inspired by his cousin Kenneth Vasquez of Danbury.

"I launched it for my cousin," he told Daily Voice.

"It's an organic creative directory of people looking to showcase, network and get booked. On the journey to help my cousin become an influential artist I realized a team of friends with similar dreams from (our circle) wanted the same opportunities."

The website is for anyone who wants to be showcased at any of the open mic and featured events throughout the area, Mateo said.

"Creatives wanted the same opportunities we were looking for, to showcase their local talent and have the opportunity to gain acknowledgement from local peers and influencers."

Mateo said he was inspired to launch the website by his cousin, Kenneth Vasquez, aka "whoiskennyv," a Danbury man who lost 80 pounds while gaining momentum in his music career.

"He writes songs, raps, sings and records his own music," Mateo said. The process transformed his cousin. "He went from an introvert to a social influencer in the Fairfield area."

He was successful enough in his networking process to gain radio exposure and a Midwestern nine-city tour, Mateo said.

The website is for freelancers to create a platform and get bookings.

"It's something like LinkedIn for creatives, both online and off-line, with Uber-like traits," Mateo said. "It's for those that work in graphics, videography, photography, DJs, actors, poets and singers."

Mateo said he gives some of the proceeds from sales to help with suicide prevention in Fairfield County.

"We believe creative expression is a major combat to diseases like depression and anxiety. Which are leading causes of suicide and encourage our community to push each other in a positive way to build each other's dreams."

Ultimately, he would like to offer workshops for teens and young adults on pursuing creative outlets.

"It saved my life after losing three people to suicide in five years," he said. "I felt so low. At one point I considered suicide myself."

Within a year, Matteo continued, he was able to lift himself up out of his depression, "through the encouraging spirits of my cousin" and others.

So far, 200 creative users have registered on the website.
