MONROE, Conn. – Monroe's Anthony Katz turned 16 on May 10, and while the birthday normally constitutes a landmark, for Katz it means so much more.

Katz was diagnosed with x-linked myotubular myopathy, the most severe type of muscular dystrophy, at birth. He was not expected to live to his first birthday, News 8 reported.

Despite the prognosis, Katz continues his battle against the disease.
