NEWTOWN, Conn. -- State Rep. Mitch Bolinsky (R-Newtown) collected donations for the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign on Friday, December 18, at the Stop & Shop located at 228 S. Main St.
The campaign, which was introduced in 1891, collects donations from Thanksgiving through Christmas Eve. Funds raised go to local Salvation Army centers and help provide holiday dinners, clothing and toys for families in need.
“Newtown again showed its generosity,” Bolinsky said. “Each and every donation we received will help local Newtown families in need, and I want to thank everyone who stopped by and donated to the Salvation Army.”
The Salvation Army operates 7,546 centers in communities across the United States. Its programs include food distribution, disaster relief, rehabilitation centers, anti-human trafficking efforts and a number of children's initiatives.
