On Saturday, kids of all ages got decked out in their costumes and headed to the Redding Community Center for Trunk-or-Treating in the parking lot.

The cost to take part was one bag of candy per child. That candy was handed out from trunks of cars as to excited trick-or-treaters went car-to-car.

“We’ve been doing this for a couple of years now, and it’s nice how the community comes out and volunteers for this event. We don’t judge anyone on their trunks, because they are all winners,” said Laurie Mayper, who was on the committee for the event. She was in charge of checking in the vehicles.

Even the vehicles got into the spirit of the event: Car after car in the parking lot was decorated for Halloween, with the trunks decked out in themes ranging from scary to fun. One was even political, dubbed “Making Halloween Great Again,” with a car inspired by the presidential campaigns of Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.

Other themes ranged from a time in space to Justice League and Gypsy fortune teller. There was even a motorcycle decorated in Halloween spirit, with the woman who owns it giving out candy as well.

“We truly had a great turnout, and it was great to see the kids excited for this,” Mayper said.

The event was sponsored by the Redding Neighbors and Newcomers along with the Redding Parks and Recreation Department. The community center was also open during this event with live entertainment provided by Les Julian, who performed Halloween tunes on his guitar.
