Crowd Supports Monroe Police Officer's Bid To Return To Work After Cancer

MONROE, Conn. — A Monroe police officer is still awaiting a decision on whether he will be allowed to return to work after a battle with brain cancer, according to the Connecticut Post.

No decision was made Monday night at a pre-termination hearing for Andrew Wall, 53, a 20-year veteran of the force who was diagnosed in September 2015 with terminal Stage Four Glioblastoma brain cancer, according to the Connecticut Post.

Despite being told that there was no hope, Wall fought back and now feels he is well enough to return to work. An online petition was set up to help him achieve his goal of getting his old position back.

The Monday night Board of Police Commissioners meeting was attended by about 140 residents and police officers who went to support Wall, the Connecticut Post reported. His family expected that a decision would be made that night, but the commission members said they needed more time to deliberate on a decision, according to the Connecticut Post.

The commission has seven days to make a decision on whether Wall will be reinstated, according to the Connecticut Post.
