The incident on the evening of Dec. 5 is being investigated "as a possible," MTA spokesman Nancy Gamerman said Thursday.

The accident happened at 9:10 p.m., when a Danbury-bound train struck a car on the track at Topstone Road,  just south of the West Redding station.

The driver of the car was taken to Danbury Hospital with minor injuries and recovered, Gamerman said.

None of the 30 people onboard the train at the time of the accident were hurt.

Service was suspended in both directions along the Danbury Branch for over two hours after the accident, she said.

The "unauthorized vehicle" on the tracks was hit by the 8:06 p.m. northbound train heading from South Norwalk to Danbury, Gamerman said.

The train was due in Danbury at 8:55 p.m., but all Metro-North trains were running late that rainy night due to congestion and slip-slide conditions on the wet tracks, she said.

At the time of the crash, it was unclear why the car was on the tracks at the crossing.
