NYC Terror Attack: Eight Killed Near World Trade Center

At least eight people were killed and 15 injured after a speeding Home Depot pickup truck plowed along a street a few blocks north of the World Trade Center Tuesday afternoon.

Officials said the incident is being investigated as a terror attack.

Police shot and captured the 29-year-old driver, ID'd as Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov, an Uzbek national who was reportedly heard shouting, "Allahu Akbar." He is currently at Bellevue Hospital with a gunshot wound to the abdomen and reportedly was in possession of a driver's license from Florida.

The NYPD said the rented pickup truck entered the West Street pedestrian/bike path a few blocks north of Chambers Street in Tribeca around 3 p.m. before striking a school bus multiple people on the path. The van then "continued south striking another vehicle. The suspect exited the vehicle displaying imitation firearms (a paintball gun and pellet gun) and was shot by NYPD," police said.

President Trump has been briefed on the incident and his "thoughts and prayers are with all those affected," the White House said.

The New York City Halloween Parade will go on as scheduled, starting at around 7 p.m., officials said.
