NEWTOWN, Conn. —  A male pedestrian who was hit by a car on an I-84 off-ramp in Newtown died of his injuries at the scene Tuesday morning, according to the state police. 

The accident occurred on the Exit 11 off-ramp of eastbound I-84 at about 9 a.m., state police said.

The off-ramp remained closed Tuesday morning for a few hours after the fatal accident for an investigation, according to the Connecticut Department of Transportation. 

Exit 11 is for Route 34/Wasserman Way. 

The crash was reported at about 9 a.m., according to DOT. The ramp reopened a few hours later.
