NEWTOWN, Conn. -- A judge in Hartford federal court delayed the sentencing of former Newtown Police Sgt. Steven Santucci, who was convicted of leading a steroid trafficking ring, because he is busy taking an electrician's training program for a second career, according to the News Times.
The sentencing hearing, which was scheduled to take place on Wednesday, is now set for July 8, so Santucci could finish his technical training and be ready for his new career after serving his government agreed sentence of 57 to 71 months in prison, said the News Times.
Court records show the 15-year veteran of the department had been receiving shipments of steroids from China since at least 2011, the News Times reported. Records also said Santucci would then manufactured and distributed large quantities of the drugs to bodybuilders in local gyms, added the News Times.
