SHELTON, Conn. — A 51-year-old lawyer from Shelton who was arrested last summer on charges of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old boy pleaded guilty Wednesday to a federal charge of enticing a minor to engage in sexual activity, prosecutors said.

U.S. Attorney John Durham said Peter G. Kruzynski pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Jeffrey Alker Meyer in New Haven.

According to court documents and statements made in court, Kruzynski sent text messages to the victim, who was under the age of 16, asking him to come to Kruzynski's home, where the lawyer then engaged in sexual activity with the victim. In addition, on one occasion in December 2014, Kruzynski used his cellphone to take photographs of the victim engaged in sexually explicit conduct. The victim was a minor at the time the photographs were taken.

Meyer scheduled sentencing for March 28. Kruzynski faces a mandatory minimum term of 10 years in prison and a maximum of life in prison.

Kruzynski was arrested on a federal criminal complaint on Sept. 16 and originally charged with production and possession of child pornography. He has been in custody since Oct. 24, when his bond was revoked for failing to comply with his release conditions.

He is also charged with related state offenses.

On Aug. 29, Shelton police arrested Kruzynski and charged him with first-degree sexual assault, second-degree sexual assault, fourth-degree sexual assault, two counts of risk of injury, impairing morals of a minor and coercion.

The arrest stemmed from a complaint of the victim, who said he was sexually assaulted by Kruzynski when he was 12 years old, police said.

The juvenile victim told police that Kruzynski took nude photos of him, then coerced him to continue having sex with him for years or said he would post the photos on the internet, police said.

The victim also reported that Kruzynski used his status as an attorney to coerce him to continue having sex, according to Shelton police.

On Dec. 15, Kruzynski was suspended from practicing law on an interim basis after his arrest in this case. He had a law practice in Shelton.

This case was investigated by the FBI and the Shelton Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Neeraj N. Patel.
