Special Screening Of 'Newtown' Documentary Set For Danbury Theater

NEWTOWN, Conn. -- Fathom Events is hosting special screenings Wednesday at theaters nationwide of the documentary "Newtown," which deals with the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School nearly four years ago.

It’s playing in 500 theaters nationwide, including six in Connecticut, in Branford, Danbury, North Haven, Manchester, Waterbury, and Milford. The event is set for 7:30 p.m., with a town hall discussion to follow the screening.

The documentary deals with the aftermath of the 2012 massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary. It has has been picked up by a major company that is releasing the film in theaters and then on TV.

The film by Kim A. Snyder was also screened at the Greenwich Film Festival to a packed house .

In the mass killing, a lone shooter shot 20 children and six staff members at the elementary school before killing himself on Dec. 14, 2012.

The film was produced by Maria Cuomo-Cole. Her brother, CNN anchor Chris Cuomo, is hosting the town hall-style discussion via satellite after Wednesday night’s special screening.
