BETHEL, Conn. – Kevin James Kennedy, of Bethel, died Tuesday, July 12 at Danbury Hospital. He was 58.

He was the husband of Eunice (Purdie) Kennedy.

He was born Dec. 6, 1957 in Waterbury, a son of the late Raymond James and Catherine J. (Knight) Kennedy. He grew up in Oakville and Watertown, and was a graduate of Scared Heart High School in Waterbury. He graduated from Western Connecticut State University in Danbury with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice. He served on the Bethel Police Force for more than 34 years before retiring in 2015 as a lieutenant. While on the force, he was a founding member of the annual PBA Golf Tournament, served on the accreditation board was a field training officer and firearms instructor.

He enjoyed playing golf, loved spending time with his family and was crazy about “his partner in crime,” his beagle, Sadie.

In addition to his wife of 32 years, he is survived by his son, Raymond P. Kennedy, of Bethel; his daughter, Colleen E. Kennedy, of Bethel; his brother, David Kennedy and his wife, Donna, of Stratford; three sisters, Elizabeth Sharman and her husband, Charles, of Oxford, Kathleen Kennedy and her partner, Paula Maionchi, M.D., of Richmond, Ky., and Ann L. Kennedy of San Francisco; and several nieces, nephews and a great-niece.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Ave., Bethel. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 18 Clapboard Ridge Road, Danbury. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery following the service.
