AAA Honors Newtown Police For Traffic Safety Programs

NEWTOWN, Conn. -- Traffic safety programs in Newtown garnered high marks this week from AAA Northeast.

The Newtown Police Department received a Gold Award for its outstanding traffic safety programs. These include an active driving improvement program for senior drivers, a child passenger safety program, aggressive drunk driving and motor vehicle campaigns, and a Citizens’ Police Academy, among initiatives.

In addition, AAA honored Officer Paula Wikman, as a department-nominated Traffic Safety Hero for her work leading the department in DWI arrests and motor vehicle stops.

The awards were given at AAA's seventh annual Community Traffic Safety Awards lunch at Testo’s in Bridgeport,
