Brookfield Car Thefts Prompt Warning From Police: Lock Your Doors

BROOKFIELD, Conn. – Several cars were reported stolen in Brookfield last week, prompting police to issue a statement to residents: "Don't help the criminals!"

The warning comes as officers investigate the thefts, which all occurred overnight Wednesday into Thursday, according to police, who did not specify which areas of town were affected.

“Although we pride ourselves for being one of the safest towns in the state, we are not exempt from crime,” the department said in a post on Facebook. “We ask every resident to always lock car doors, remove valuables and never leave the keys inside the vehicle.”

While authorities made no reference to the recent thefts as part of any greater crime wave, Brookfield police are not the only local agency dealing with car-related thefts.

Last week, Ridgefield police issued a similar warning to residents after several cars were stolen there. About the same time, several other car owners in the area reported items had been stolen from inside their vehicles. Ridgefield police said the cars targeted had all been left unlocked.
