CT State Police Log Hundreds Of Arrests In First Night Of Holiday Weekend

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — State Police are out in force this holiday weekend, focusing on reducing DUIs and crashes by strictly enforcing all motor vehicle laws.

Increased patrols began at 12:01 a.m. Friday and will continue through 11:59 p.m. Monday.

According to stats compiled from 12:01 a.m. Friday through 7:30 a.m. Saturday, troopers had already issued 268 speeding violations and eight seatbelt violations. Twelve people were arrested for driving while under the influence.

State police have investigated 108 accidents, 12 with injuries and one involving a fatality.

Troopers have assisted 131 motorists and logged 2,418 calls for service.

State police had a busy New Year’s Eve weekend in 2016, logging 276 accidents, 34 with injuries.

Thirty-four people were arrested for driving under the influence and 705 speeding violations were issued. Total calls for service topped 6,980 and there were two accidents resulting in three fatalities.
