Danbury Man Asleep Behind Wheel Busted With Illegal Gun, Crack In Bethel

BETHEL, Conn. — A 45-year-old Danbury man was busted with an illegal pistol and crack cocaine when he was found asleep behind the wheel of a running car on a Bethel road, police said.

Antonio Veiga, of 18 Houseman St., Danbury was arrested at 5:36 a.m. July 2 at Hunting Ridge Lane in Bethel, police said. 

A glass pipe used for smoking crack was found between his legs, and a search of the car turned up another crack cocaine pipe, a marijuana smoking pipe, a gram of crack cocaine, and a handgun that was found in a bag under the driver's seat, Bethel police said. 

Veiga had a suspended driver's license and as a convicted felon is prohibited from possessing a handgun, police said. 

He was arrested and charged with possession of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana paraphernalia, operating a motor vehicle under suspension and criminal possession of a pistol as well as failure to appear. 

He was held on $10,000 bond for the first five charges and a $50,000 bond for the failure to appear charge. He was scheduled to appear July 3 in Danbury Superior Court.
