The Fairfield County East Zone Brush Fire strike team responded to the scene, bringing in mutual aid from the Redding, West Redding, Danbury, Stevenson, Monroe, Trumbull, Shelton and the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection crews.

The Bethel Office of Emergency Management reported on Tuesday night that the firefighters had gotten the brush fire under control, and that DEEP was continuing to monitor. Firefighters left at around 7:45 p.m. because operating at night was too dangerous, fire officials said, but planned on coming back in the morning.

Firefighters from Bethel and areas towns returned on Wednesday morning, and the Bethel OEM reported that fire was flaring up in spots. Hand crews were working on the Danbury side to contain the fire. The rocky terrain was making tasks difficult, but the Bethel Fire Department had command and was coordinating resources.
