House Sitter's Friend Charged With Stealing, Pawning Items From Monroe Home

MONROE, Conn. — A Waterbury woman was charged with stealing tools and cash from a Monroe home where her friend was house sitting in August, according to police.

A family returned from vacation to their Jockey Hollow Road home in August and immediately noticed "big tool items" missing from their garage and cash missing from their home, police said. An investigation led police to 37-year-old Jennifer Spezzano of Waterbury, a friend of the house sitter, police said.

Police learned that Spezzano had pawned items stolen from the home and used the homeowner's car to take items to local pawn shops, police said.

Spezzano was arrested by warrant on Wednesday, Sept. 20 and charged with third-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny, and using a motor vehicle without the owner's permission. She was released after posting a $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 28.

Police said that the investigation is continuing and more arrests are expected.
