On the morning of Wednesday, April 26, Greenwich Town Parks employees were clearing debris from a wooded area of Helen Binney Kitchel Natural Park when they discovered what appeared to be human remains, police said. Police and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined that they were indeed human remains, but said they were not from a recent event.

Police returned to the park on Thursday morning to continue their investigation. In addition to Greenwich Police, the Connecticut State Police Dive Team and the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection were also on scene.
The teams were checking contaminated tidal areas near where the remains were found, police said. The dive teams were also entering the waters in the park and searching for additional materials or remains that may be related to the case.
