Major Drug Dealer In Custody After Norwalk PD Gets Tips From Residents

Mulitple anonymous tips from residents landed a major drug trafficker behind bars following an investigation by the Norwalk Police Department.

During the month of April, the Special Services Division conducted an investigation into the drug trafficking operation of Joseph Daniels, 35, of Norwalk, after receiving numerous tips from the community regarding Daniels' drug dealing activities via the department’s anonymous text-a-tip program, said Lt. Terrence Blake.

"During this time investigators conducted hours of surveillance and made multiple controlled purchases of Fentanyl-laced heroin as well as cocaine from Daniels," Blake said. "As a result, the lead investigator, Officer Mark Suda obtained five arrest warrants for Daniels as well as search warrants for Daniels residence and vehicle."

On Wednesday,  investigators executed the search warrants on Daniels residence and vehicle and seized drug packing material, gloves, masks, money bands, bags, rubber bands, scales and a money counter, Blake said.

 Investigators searching Daniels vehicle uncovered a hidden compartment in the front passenger seat. Inside the compartment investigators found 110 bags of heroin, 40 grams of cocaine, 30 grams of raw heroin and two vials of steroids, he added.

They also found keys for two locations in a storage facility. Investigators obtained search warrants for both locations, and during a search, found, $55,000, 4,500 bags of heroin, cell phones, and syringes. 

Daniels, who is on parole, was remanded to custody by the Bridgeport Parole Office.

“This investigation will have a significant impact on heroin and Fentanyl trafficking within the City of Norwalk”, said Lt. James Walsh, commander of the Special Services Division. 

In total 4700 bags of heroin, $55,000, 30 grams of raw heroin, 40 grams of cocaine and drug packaging/processing paraphernalia were seized. 

Chief Thomas Kulhawik praised the Special Services Division for their hard work on this investigation and stated: “There is no question that this seizure of the Fentanyl-laced heroin has saved lives in Norwalk and the surrounding communities”.

Daniels was charged with five counts of sale of narcotics, six counts of possession of narcotics, operating . a drug factory, possession of drug within 1,500 feet of a school, and possession of drug paraphernalia within 1,500 feet of a school.

He is being held $2,000,000 bond.
