NEWTOWN, Conn. — A motorcyclist who was thrown from his bike was killed in a crash Thursday afternoon on Mt. Pleasant Road/Route 25 in Newtown, police said.

The accident was reported at about 3 p.m. Thursday by a 911 caller, said the statement from Newtown police Sgt. Aaron Bahamonde. The crash scene was in the area of Reservoir Road, just west of the flagpole area.

Police responded, along with Newtown Hook & Ladder, and Newtown Ambulance.

Upon arrival, officers found a heavily damaged motorcycle in the southbound lane of Mt. Pleasant, he said. The operator of the motorcycle was located down the embankment of the southbound shoulder, Bahamonde said.

Paramedics who arrived at the scene determined that the operator was dead due to the extent of the injuries suffered in the crash, he said.

The Newtown Police Accident Reconstruction Team was investigating at the crash scene, and the road is expected to remain closed until the investigation is complete, he said. The closure could last until late Thursday night.

The name of the deceased was not released until the next of kin has been notified, Bahamonde said.

Anyone who might have witnessed this accident is asked to contact the Newtown Police Department at 203-426- 5841.
