Matthew O'Connor, 28, of 19 Fairchild Road, was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree assault, breach of peace and evading responsibility. He posted $1,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 12.
Easton police said that a resident called 911 to report that he was hit by a vehicle in front of his home at about 9 a.m. He said that he got a partial license plate number of the vehicle, police said.
In searching for the vehicle, Easton police called Newtown police about a possible match. Newtown dispatch informed the Easton officer that the vehicle was stopped by a Newtown officer after suspected erratic driving, police said.
O'Connor and his girlfriend, who was a passenger in the car, insisted that O'Connor hadn't struck anyone with his vehicle, police said.
O'Connor told police he was at the Easton home waiting for his girlfriend, who was inside. After waiting a considerable period of time, he said he went to the home and knocked on a window to tell her to come out, police said.
O'Connor said the complainant assaulted him and then broke his car window and held on to the vehicle as O'Connor attempted to drive away, police said.
Police said it was unclear why the couple had been at the Easton residence.
O'Connor and his girlfriend were speaking slowly and appeared to be extremely sleepy, police said. Officers told them to return to police headquarters at a later time to provide written statements when their conditions improved, police said.
Police later arrested O'Connor on the multiple charges.
Police did not detail any injuries suffered in the incident.
