Newtown Police Charge Driver With DUI After Crash Takes Out Utility Pole

NEWTOWN, Conn. -- A 24-year-old Newtown man was arrested on charges of driving under the influence after running off his car off the road and slamming into a utility pole, police said.

The single-car accident occurred April 30 on Old Green Road when a car driven by James Bowers went off the road, hit a curb and struck the utility pole, causing the pole to fall on top of the car, police said. The wires fell into the roadway, police said. 

Bowers, who was not injured, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and making a restricted turn. He was released with a court date of May 19 in Danbury Superior Court.
