NEWTOWN, Conn. -- Investigators looking for a man accused of burglarizing five homes in Sandy Hook and several others elsewhere are one step closer to an arrest, according to authorities.

In a statement on the Newtown Police Department's Facebook page Wednesday , Police Chief James Viadero said investigators have a name for a man captured by video surveillance footage taken at one of the homes.

"With your help, we have identified a potential suspect and are working with other agencies in this effort who have also had residential burglaries," Viadero said. "We are quite confident we will be making an arrest for our break-ins in the very near future."

On Saturday, while calling upon the public to help solve the case, Newtown police released a brief video of the man , a bald, white man wearing a white baseball cap with blue on the edge of its brim; a white, blue and gray horizontal-striped shirt; and khaki shorts who was suspected in the forced-entry burglaries.

Since then, the department has made "tremendous progress" thanks to the "excellent" efforts of local people, Viadero said.

The man, whose name was not released, may be driving a black pickup truck and may frequent the Waterbury area, according to investigators.
