NEWTOWN, Conn. — The Newtown Police Department and the FBI are investigating two suspected pipe bombs found Friday evening in a trailer park in Newtown, police said.

At 7:30 p.m. Friday, the Newtown Police were called to the area of the trailer park at 301 S. Main St. on a report of vandalism to a motor vehicle, police said.

Upon arrival, Officer Matthew Pirhala was shown two suspicious devices that appeared to be pipe bombs, police said.

The immediate area was cleared, and the Connecticut State Police Bomb Squad was called in, police said.

Members of the bomb squad arrived and safely removed the devices and rendered them safe, police said.

A brief on site examination showed that the devices were filled with an energetic substance, police said. The substance will be sent for further analysis in a forensic laboratory, police said.

This case is being investigated jointly by the Newtown Police and the FBI.

Anyone with any information on the case is asked to contact the Newtown Police Department at 203-426- 5841.
