Newtown Rallies To Help Police Dog Diagnosed With Cancer

NEWTOWN, Conn. -- Newtown Police Department K-9 Saint Michael was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer this week, and the department is seeking the public's help in getting him the care he needs.

A GoFundMe campaign has been established to collect donations to help cover the medical costs related to Saint Michael's diagnosis. Saint Michael has been with the Newtown Police Department since 2014, and has served the community diligently with his handler, Officer Felicia Figol.

"Saint Michael is trained in narcotic detection, suspect tracking and apprehension," the GoFundMe said. "He is an asset to the police force and our community needs him back on the road as soon as possible. Your donations will help cover the costs of his medical treatment and potentially save his life."

The GoFundMe was set up on Tuesday, and by noon Wednesday had collected about $1,300 of its $5,000 goal.
