NEWTOWN, Conn. -- A crash on Route 25 in Newtown closed the road on Friday afternoon, and it could remain closed until Saturday morning, according to the News-Times.

The accident took place at around noon when a car crashed into a utility pole at Cold Spring Road, according to the News-Times. The pole was broken in half and multiple wires were brought down, leading to repairs that have lasted several hours and could continue into the morning, the News-Times reported.

The accident was caused when the driver of a Lexus tried to pass a dump trunk, then hit a curb and crashed into a pole, police told the News-Times. Wires covered the truck and it briefly caught on fire before the truck driver extinguished the flames, according to the News-Times.

The truck driver was checked by paramedics and the driver of the Lexus complained of a head injury and was taken to the hospital for evaluation, according to the News-Times.
