NEWTOWN, Conn. — A 52-year old Sandy Hook man was killed Tuesday night after the boat he was operating on Lake Zoar was struck by another vessel, state officials said.

Randall Pineau of Waterview Drive, Sandy Hook, was pronounced dead at Danbury Hospital, according to the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection's Environmental Conservation Police.

Pineau was operating a pontoon boat on the lake near Mohawk Trail, a street in Sandy Hook, when it was hit by a ski boat at about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, said Dennis Schain, communications director for DEEP.

Pineau was taken to Danbury Hospital by the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps. His wife, Katherine, who suffered minor injuries, was also transported to Danbury Hospital, where she was treated and released, Schain said.

There were a total of six people aboard the two vessels – four on the pontoon boat and two on the ski boat, Schain said. One other person suffered minor injuries but refused treatment at the scene, he said.

Assisting EnCon Police at the scene were the Newtown Police Department, Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire Department, Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Lake Zoar Marine Patrol , and the Connecticut State Police.

The ENCON Boating Accident Reconstruction Unit is continuing to investigate the fatal accident.
