The incident occurred about 2:30 p.m., as New Milford officers responded to a disturbance at an apartment complex on Candlewood Lake Road South, police said.

Officers discovered 47-year-old Kevin Mohan making threats while in possession of a handgun and attempted to resolve the situation, police said.

Mohan refused to drop the weapon and fired at least one round towards the officers, hitting Officer Charles Cochran in the ankle, police said. Mohan was disarmed and taken into custody after officers had to use a Taser, police said.

Mohan was taken to New Milford Hospital for evaluation and later charged with unlawful discharge of a handgun and breach of peace.

Mohan will answer to charges Monday in Danbury Superior Court.
