Connecticut State Troopers seized four kilos of cocaine following a motor vehicle stop Monday in Waterbury.

Luiz Ortiz was charged with illegal sale of drugs and other offenses. He was held on $250,000 bond pending a court date in Waterbury.

Troopers stopped a 2002 Dodge Durango around 6:45 p.m. on Interstate 84 when the driver was observed not wearing a seatbelt. The trooper also saw the vehicle swerve into the right shoulder over the fog line.

Police stopped the vehicle at the Exit 25a Eastbound off-ramp. While speaking with the operator troopers determined illegal narcotics may be present in the vehicle and initiated an investigation. Ortiz allowed troopers to search his vehicle and during the course of the search troopers located and seized four kilos of suspected cocaine.

Ortiz, 46, was taken into custody and transported to Troop A where he was fingerprinted and photographed. The cocaine was seized and transported to Troop A where it was held as evidence.

Other charges against Ortiz were Failure to Wear Seatbelt, Failure to Drive in Proper Lane, Operating without a License and Possession of Narcotics.
