Trumbull Police closed a portion of Booth Hill Road for the evacuation at about 3 p.m. Monday after receiving an erroneous report of a possible bomb on the bus.
Officers tracked down the source of the report and learned that it was relayed from another student who made the comments several days earlier, police said.
On Monday, a student texted a parent and said that they did not feel safe on the bus, police said. The parent contacted the school bus company, which in turn contacted Trumbull Police.
The bus was stopped in the area of Booth Hill Road and Wisteria Drive, police said. The area was cordoned off, and the students were taken of the bus, police said.
The bus was searched by specially trained bomb sniffing dogs from the MTA Police Department.
No explosives were found, and the bus was deemed safe, police said.
All of the students were transferred to another bus and transported home safely, police said.
The road was opened after about an hour, police said.
Officers were continuing to investigate to determine whether charges would be lodged against the 15-year-old who made the original threat, police said.
