DANBURY, CONN. – If you find yourself doing some holiday shopping at the Walmart in Danbury tomorrow, you may be wondering why those Salvation Army bell-ringers standing outside look so familiar.

State Rep. Stephen Harding, left, and state Sen. Michael McLachlan will ring the bells for the Salvation Army at a Walmart in Danbury this Friday, Dec. 16.

That’s because they could be the lawmakers who are fighting for you in Albany.

State Assemblyman Stephen Harding, R-107, and state Sen. Michael McLachlan, R-24, will be manning the charitable organization’s ubiquitous red buckets from 4:30-5:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 16, at the superstore located at 67 Newtown Road.

The lawmakers said the House GOP caucus “as a whole” has raised $186,351 for the Salvation Army over the past several years.

They urged constituents to stop by the store to help make the fundraising event “a success.”

But those that can’t make it are asked to visit the Salvation Army’s website at www.salvationarmyusa.org to learn about other ways they “can do good this holiday season,” such as donating cars, clothing, household goods, airline miles, bonds and stocks, or by volunteering.

According to the lawmakers, the Salvation Army responds to natural disasters such as wildfires and tornadoes, provides meals and toys to families in need, and conducts research and analyses regarding human needs around the country.

It also provides adult rehabilitation, veteran services, elderly services, missing person searches, housing assistance, youth recreation, sponsorship and support in the fight to end human trafficking, they said.

For more information on the fundraising event, contact Harding by calling (800) 842-1423, or emailing him at Stephen.Harding@housegop.ct.gov.

To reach McLachlan’s office, contact his aide, Peggy Tibbals, by calling (800) 842-1421, or emailing her at Peggy.Tibbals@cga.ct.gov.
