NEWTOWN, Conn. -- Mark Barden, father of a Sandy Hook Elementary School victim, provided a lone voice at a Senate hearing regarding President Barack Obama's recent executive order to close the gun-show loophole, according to The Connecticut Mirror.
Barden testified that "shamefully, Congress has done nothing" to address gun violence. Other witnesses at the Appropriations subcommittee hearing testified with the panel's Republican majority, maintaining that the president's order was an unconstitutional, reported The Connecticut Mirror.
As previously reported , Barden introduced the president at the White House before he announced the executive order to tighten gun gun laws. He co-founded the Sandy Hook Promise, a group dedicated to preventing gun violence before it happens.
His son was one of 20 first-graders and six educators killed on Dec. 14, 2012.
