BETHEL, Conn. -- May is prom season for area schools, and that included a magical night for some preschool students in Bethel at a pint-sized event prepared just for them.
Girls and boys ages 3 to 5 wore fancy dresses, handsome suits, painted nails and dolled-up hair last Thursday for the prom at Bethel High School.
Assisted by students in a child development class taught by Hannah Lopp, children in the Little Wildcats program celebrated at the prom.
It was the first time the school hosted the dance for the young children. High school students work year-round with the preschoolers, and learn how children develop, physically, cognitively, socially and emotionally. The high school students are paired with a preschool buddies to engage in hands-on learning experiences and create lasting bonds with the children.
The Disney-themed prom included girls wearing outfits from their favorite princesses, and boys decked out in jackets and ties.
""My students went above and beyond making this night magical for their preschool buddies,'' Lopp said. "Both high school students and the Little Wildcats had a great time dancing, socializing, and of course utilizing the photo booth. It was a ton of fun and we hope it's something that will become a yearly event for the program."
