The concrete sides of the bridge and edges of the deck on both sides of the Kenosia Avenue Bridge have deteriorated and need to be replaced.

Danbury will reduce the travel lane width over the bridge to one 14-foot-wide lane to allow traffic to alternately pass in both directions. The alternate traffic flow will be controlled by a portable traffic signal system.

One side of the bridge will be repaired at a time in order to eliminate the need to close both lanes of traffic over the bridge for the duration of the project.

During certain times, the bridge will be completely closed to traffic to safely perform the necessary work.

The permanent repairs to the bridge fascia and deck will take about four months. During this period, delays should be expected and drivers are recommended to avoid using the bridge.

A detailed Traffic Detour Plan will be set up to direct drivers to use alternate routes, but there will be delays.

The first road closure will be on Monday, May 8. An alternating one-way traffic pattern will start on Tuesday, May 9.

The city will provide additional notices as the construction proceeds.

Residents can visit the City of Danbury website for updates on when the Kenosia Bridge will be totally closed, updates on traffic patterns and general work progress.
