Redding First Selectman Julia Pemberton said in a Facebook post that the crossing will be closed while the DOT completely replaces the crossing surface. Closing signs were posted Wednesday by the DOT.

The crossing is expected to reopen by Thursday, April 6.

Pemberton said there will be some disruption to train service, and that the town will share that information as soon as it is confirmed.

Town officials met with the school district Thursday to discuss alternate routes for school buses with a goal to minimize inconveniences for families as much as possible.

Metro-North Police will staff the crossing 24/7 as workers will be at the site all day and night throughout the weekend. Redding Police will also be assigned to the scene.

There is maintenance scheduled for May for the crossing surface at Long Ridge Road. That work is scheduled for May 19 and will last until May 25.
