3 To 6 Inches Of Snow Possible For Newtown; Winter Storm Watch In Effect

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- A Winter Storm Watch is in effect from late Wednesday night through Thursday evening, as the National Weather Service predicts that 3 to 6 inches of snow could be headed for Fairfield County.

Higher amounts of snow in excess of 6 inches are possible, according to the National Weather Service. Winds gusting as high as 35 to 45 mph will cause areas of blowing and drifting snow. There is the potential for significant snow, sleet or ice accumulations that may impact travel conditions, including during the morning commute on Thursday.

A few tree limbs and power lines may be downed, causing scattered power outages.

It will be sunny during the day on Wednesday, when the high will be near 28 and wind chill values will be between zero and 10.

The snow will likely hit Wednesday night, mainly after midnight. The low Wednesday night will be around 18, with wind chill values between 10 and 15.

The majority of the snow will hit on Thursday during the day, when the chance of precipitation is 100 percent. The snow could be heavy at times, and areas of blowing snow are expect4ed before noon. There will be a steady temperature around 22, with wind chill values between 5 and 10. 

Snow will slow down on Thursday night, and there is a 50 percent chance of snow before midnight. Thursday night will otherwise be cloudy and gradually clear up, with a low around 7. Wind chill values will be between negative 10 and zero. Gusts could be as high as 33 mph.

Friday will be sunny and cold, with a high near 11. It will be windy, with a west wind between 15 and 17 mph and gusts as high as 31 mph.
