Heat, Thunderstorms To Hit Newtown

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Residents can forget about fall temperatures over the next few days as a low-level flow over the area brings in warmer air along with thunderstorms throughout most of the upcoming weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

Highs will be well into the 80s to lower 90s for most locations Thursday and upper 80s to lower 90s on Friday.

Thunderstorms are forecast to move into the area after 2 p.m. Thursday, after the partly sunny skies of the morning hours. The chance of rain is 20 percent Thursday afternoon and a 30 percent Thursday night with thunderstorms, mainly between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m. 

Rain continues on Friday with a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. The morning hours should remain mostly sunny, with a high near 89. Partly cloudy skies with lows in near 65 are in store for Friday night.

Saturday's forecast calls for a slight chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 1 p.m., with a high near 82. Showers continue into Saturday evening with a 40 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms. 

Partly sunny skies return on Sunday with high temperatures near 81.
