Possible Nor'Easter Could Bring Heavy Rain To Newtown This Weekend

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- The Fairfield County area is likely to see some rain and storms Thursday afternoon, with an out-of-season Nor'easter possibly hitting the region this weekend.

A weak cold front hitting the region on Thursday will bring a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. Some of the storms could produce gusty, damaging winds. The temperatures will continue their slow moderation, but will still be a few degrees below average, with a high of 78 expected. 

Showers and storms will continue into Thursday night, mainly between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. In addition to gusty winds, some of the storms could produce small hail. The low Thursday night will be around 67.

The front should weaken and stall over the area on Friday, which will be partly sunny with a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Temperatures will be continue to rise, and the high will be near 82. 

The Weather Service predicts that the region could see an out-of-season Nor'easter late Friday into Saturday. Showers are likely and thunderstorms are also possible Friday night, when the chance of precipitation will be 70 percent. Storms could produce gusty winds, as well as heavy rain, with rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible. The heaviest rain will likely remain in the south, but any northward change in the expected track could result in rainfall capable of causing flooding. 

Showers are likely and thunderstorms are possible on Saturday throughout the day. The high will be near 71, and the chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and a half inch are possible. Saturday night will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 60.

Sunday is expected to be mostly sunny, but still cool, with a high near 78. Sunday night will be partly cloudy with a low around 62.
