Snow Developing Tonight In Newtown Will Impact Morning Commute

updated: FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — The forecast just got a worse for the snow expected to hit Fairfield County by Thursday night and continue into Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for 10 p.m. Thursday until 10 a.m. Friday for southern Connecticut.

Snow accumulations of 1 to 4 inches are possible along the shoreline, the weather service said. The snow will develop late Thursday and continue into rush-hour on Friday morning.

The snow could cause hazardous travel conditions. Temperatures will be in the upper 20s, but snow, sleet and freezing rain could cause travel problems, the weather service said. Motorists are urged to use caution.  

But things will move out quickly then give way to a sunny and seasonal weekend, the Weather Service said.

Snow is likely to begin before midnight when skies will be cloudy and the mercury dips to 23. The chance of precipitation is 70 percent with 1 to 4 inches of new snow accumulating, with less snow inland.

Friday calls for morning snow then the day will be mostly cloudy, near 33, with wind chill values making the air feel 10 degrees lower.

Things cool off starkly overnight to 14 degrees under partly cloudy skies with even colder wind chill values between 5 and 10.

Saturday will bring warmer temperatures in the upper-20s under sunny skies. Then overnight, it will cool down again to 14.

Sunday will be mostly sunny and warmer, near 26.
