The National Weather Service said Saturday will be mostly cloudy with a high in the upper 30s, but by 9 p.m. snow and rain will begin to move across Connecticut.

There won't be enough snow or rain to ruin New Year's Eve plans, but it could be enough to coat the roads and make for slippery driving conditions.

The light snow is more likely in the interior parts of Fairfield County, with just rain likely along the coast, the weather service said.

New Year’s Day will be sunny with highs in the mid-40s. But by Sunday evening, temperatures will drop below freezing and bring a chance of some freezing rain and sleet.

The freezing rain and sleet could continue until late morning on Monday before turning to just rain. The chance of precipitation is 50 percent.

Rain is likely by Monday evening, continuing into Tuesday, the start of th workweek.
