Thunderstorms, Flooding Possible On Rainy Thursday In Newtown

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Fairfield County residents will see plenty of rain through Memorial Day, with rain expected for most of the day Thursday, along with a possible thunderstorm and flooding.

The chance of precipitation is 100 percent Thursday, according to the National Weather Service, with a break possible this afternoon and evening. Showers will pick back up tonight, with a thunderstorm possible as well. The temperature will remain steady at around 54 throughout the day Thursday, and areas of fog can be expected after 2 p.m.

A coastal flood advisory is in effect from 10 p.m. Thursday to 1 a.m. Friday. The flooding is expected to hit low lying coastal areas along western Long Island Sound, impacting the most vulnerable waterfront and shoreline roads. A few road closures are likely, though the threat of property damage is low.

Showers are expected to taper off during the day on Friday. The rest of the day will be cloudy, though some areas could see some breaks of sun before evening. The high will be near 68. Friday night will be mostly cloudy with a low around 53.

Saturday will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 71. Saturday night will still be mostly cloudy, with a low around 54.

Sunday will be partly sunny with a high near 67, though there is a 30 percent chance of showers after 11 a.m. Showers are likely on Sunday night, mainly before 10 p.m. Otherwise the night will be cloudy, with a low around 54. The chance of precipitation is 60 percent. 

Memorial Day will not be the best barbecue weather, as there is a 40 percent chance of showers. Otherwise the day will be mostly cloudy with a high near 69. There is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms on Monday night.
